Sunsetting Standalone Graphs

Last year we launched support for GraphQL Federation which has since become a core part of our offering, and our most in-demand service.

Standalone graphs have been a fundamental part of our platform since the launch of Grafbase. They offer a great way to get started with GraphQL and have proven valuable for many of our clients. However, over time, and through feedback from our customers, we’ve realized that standalone graphs don’t effectively scale to meet the demands of larger teams and enterprises.

Due to the above, we have made the decision to focus all of our efforts on GraphQL Federation, to be able to provide our customers with a best-in-class quality product and experience.

We will be sunsetting Standalone graphs on November 1, 2024. This means that Standalone graphs will continue to work until then, but we will not be adding any new features or fixing any major bugs. Starting today you will no longer be able to create new Standalone graphs.

If you are using Standalone graphs, you will need to migrate your API to another GraphQL server before November 1, 2024. We recommend using libraries like GraphQL Yoga, Apollo Server, or Mercurius and hosting on Cloudflare Workers or Fly.io.

If you need more time to migrate your Standalone graphs, please reach out to us on Discord. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

We are excited to focus our efforts on GraphQL Federation. We have a lot of features shipping soon, including:

  • Governance: We are working on a new governance feature that will make it easier to manage your GraphQL schema evolution across multiple teams.
  • Grafbase Enterprise Platform: Very soon you'll be able to self-host the whole Grafbase platform in your own infrastructure. Stay tuned!
